How deeply the "Border Czar" attacks on Harris fail miserably.
Because there wasn't any "Border Czar" - it's completely made up.
We know that the GOP are a pack of desperate liars. They can hardly utter two words without the second one being a lie. The latest one is the attack on Vice President Harris and her role as “Border Czar" — just take it from Donnie Jr.
Trump Jr. argued in the article, published by Fox News, that Democrats have “put America last” by opening up the borders to migrants, dismantling election systems and “embracing non-citizen voting.”
“Biden’s border czar VP – turned presidential candidate Harris – has failed Americans with her devastating performance at the border,” he wrote.
Trump argued that Harris has not spoken to the Border Patrol chief and she only visited the U.S.-Mexico border “years ago.”
As Harris gears up to take on the former president in the general election this fall, Republicans have sought to criticize her for the role she played in Biden’s administration and the influx of migrants who arrived in the country during their time in office.
A strong message in Trump’s op-ed was that undocumented migrants will vote in the U.S. election. The White House claims that it’s rare for noncitizens to break the law by voting, but the GOP has clung to the idea that the influx of migrants arriving at the southern border correlates with election security.
“If the Biden and Harris administration insists it’s only a small problem, I’m inclined to believe it’s a big one. But regardless, shouldn’t we be doing everything to fix any problem that could jeopardize our elections?” Trump wrote.
He argued that “Democrats have a clear plan” of allowing noncitizens to vote. Trump urged voters to cast their ballot for his father because he will do “everything possible to stop non-citizen voting.”
“Open Borders.” “Migrants will Vote.” The GOP treats these as givens. It’s obviously true that the border is fully wide open, right? Democrats want undocumented migrants to enter the nation so that they can vote — for Democrats of course. And they want to skew the census by having migrants housed in “Democrat Sanctuary Cities” so that they get more representatives in Congress, and a larger taste of the electoral vote.
Let me take a quick scratch poll — have you ever heard or seen a Democrat —- elected or not — say any shit like that? (If so, please submit your example in the comments) But I suspect there won’t be any comments, there won’t be any stories of any Democrat bragging anywhere about how many “undocumented votes” they got.
Because people who aren’t citizens can’t vote for national and state candidates. Period.
And Vice President Kamala Harris was never the “Border Czar.”
The job President Biden gave Kamala Harris was to negotiate with nations in the Northern Triangle south of Mexico to help get at the “route causes” of undocumented immigration. A lot of people have spit out a lot of words about this role, but most of it has been rank speculation and frankly made-up nonsense.
This is what she actually did.
Although the United States’ southern border was not specifically part of the portfolio handed to her, Harris’s indirect involvement—through her role in seeking to reduce migratory push factors in northern Central America—has received considerable scrutiny, especially among those who criticize the Biden administration’s approach to migration. The data at this point indicate that the Biden administration has made progress in reducing the number of migrants arriving at the US border from Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador to levels last seen toward the end of the Trump administration, even as increased migration from other countries has contributed to a high level of overall encounters at the border.
At the same time, more work is clearly needed to ensure that migration levels from northern Central America do not jump back up. It is imperative that the efforts undertaken as part of the ongoing “root causes” strategy carry forward no matter who wins the US election in November. This means ensuring that local organizations have the technical and financial resources to improve opportunities for job creation and human-capital development and also to combat often-endemic corruption. These and other conditions are needed not just to dampen the drive to migrate but also to create longer-term economic security that ultimately benefits the national security of the United States and partner countries.
In the course of her work as vice president with Central America and the Caribbean . . . she has taken on tough issues that don’t lend themselves to easy, quick solutions.
In one example of her “listen, act, then follow up” approach, Harris traveled to Guatemala and Mexico in June 2021. A month later, she rolled out a five-pillar strategy that revolved around working with in-country partners to address the root causes of Central American migration, noting that “migration to our border is also a symptom of much larger issues” and admitting from the start that “progress will not be instantaneous.” She subsequently visited Honduras in January 2022. In March 2024, she welcomed Guatemala’s new president, Bernardo Arévalo, to the White House for more discussions. This approach suggests that Harris could govern in a manner where decisions are carefully thought out and where a multitude of factors are taken into account before acting.
In its three years, the five-pillar strategy has produced more than $5.2 billion in commitments from companies and organizations to invest in the region while supporting local development in areas of high emigration. And there are signs that migration from the region is now slowing. The number of Guatemalans encountered at the southwestern border last month (11,485) was the second-lowest since November 2020. The number of Hondurans (8,896) was the lowest over the same period. Overall, the proportion of migrants encountered at the US border who are citizens of Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador has dropped from 49 percent (March 2021) to 18 percent (June 2024).
Kamala Harris’ efforts reduced the proportion of migration from Guatemala, Hondorus and El Salvador from 49% to just 18%. Proportionally, that is a 50% reduction.
No, she didn’t reduce the rate to 0%, but then that would be completely unreasonable. This is a respectable result. Commendable even. This is just what she was assigned to do — reduce undocumented migration — and that’s what she did.
I went on @FoxNewsSunday today to tell some hard truths, including these: 1. VP Harris was put in charge of stemming migration from 3 Central American countries. In 2 years, that migration dropped 50%. 2. Today daily border crossings are LOWER than at the end of Trump's term.
